Saturday Free Boating (2019)

Kayak or rowboat on this quiet stretch of the Schuylkill River. No registration or boating experience necessary! All ages are welcome, minors must be accompanied by an adult. We provide the boats, life jackets and basic instruction. There are trained rowers available if you would prefer to not row or paddle yourself. Excursions limited to 30 minutes. Explore the basics of weaving in the Bartram’s Garden Meadow! Learn how to use a free-stranded rigid heddle loom, constructed by artist Enrica Ferrero along the banks of the Schuylkill River. Use meadow plants to create unique textures and patterns. During open hours, you can find this hidden loom by following signs from the Community Boathouse or the bike path. Learn how to catch one of the 42 fish species found in the tidal Schuylkill from Bartram’s Garden’s Community Boathouse. We provide rods, tackle, bait and basic instruction. Rods are available on a first come first served basis. No fishing license necessary, state license requirements are waived for these events. No registration required.
