Cancelled for 2020: Brown Brainy Brilliant Book Festival

  • Date: June 7, 2020
  • Time: 10:30am - 4:00pm

As the situation with COVID19 continues to evolve, this public program has been canceled with the hope and expectation that it will find a home in the garden next year. We will assess future programming on a rolling basis. In the meantime, please follow our social media channels for information on live-streams and online workshops.

The historic house and garden are closed per state requirement, however the public park and recreational trail are open for walking, biking, jogging, and operating a wheelchair. Do note that per guidance from the city’s Department of Parks & Recreation, the gate to our main driveway will be periodically closed to prevent overcrowding in our visitor parking lot. Bartram’s Garden remains open for safe outdoor recreation while maintaining social distancing.

Stay safe, friends. We look forward to seeing you in the Garden someday soon!

The Brown Brainy Brilliant Book Festival is an annual free literary event in Philadelphia, PA showcasing a diverse group of independently published authors—those of color and those from the LGBTQ+ community. The goal is to expose readers to familiar, emerging voices; and encourage summer reading, learning, and wellness. This event will focus strongly on children’s literature but is open to books for various ages and genres. Readers of all ages are welcome.

Come see yourself in our stories!

Thank you to everyone that applied to be a part of our festival. We received almost 100 applicants and we have begun the selection process. Everyone that submitted an application with a contact email will receive a decision and next steps if accepted by March 1.
